ST. Louis Public Radio Bargaining Report #1
BARGAINING REPORT #1
May 29, 2025
The Communications Workers of America and the St. Louis Public Radio bargaining committee met with representatives from the University of Missouri system on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, for the group’s 10th meeting. This is the first time the two parties have met since last November and after the University and STLPR announced they were separating.
The Union passed proposals regarding minimum terms of the contract, shift differentials, a cell phone stipend and a successorship clause (which maintains the unit will exist after the transition), among others. The University appears to be unwilling to address economic issues since the transition has been announced, but their representatives maintain they would like to ratify a contract.
The Union and University also had a productive conversation about what happens to employee benefits, mainly retirement accounts, after transitioning employees to Friends of KWMU. The University believes many of those burdens will be left with the non-profit. The bargaining committee asked about holding Q&A sessions regarding employee benefits with STLPR staff, and the University representatives said it could be arranged.
CWA and the STLPR bargaining unit hope to further their discussions at the next session, which has been scheduled for Tuesday, June 17 at 10 a.m. In the meantime, the Union hopes to author a few remaining proposals and review existing proposals from the University.
In Solidarity,
Your Bargaining Committee
