2020 AT&T Purple Mobility Sick Time & Other Time Off TA Highlights
We want to be upfront about this section. Paid illness time off is the only item in the TA where we negotiated a give back. This giveback is in line with what AT&T has already negotiated in other AT&T Mobility & Core contracts. This limit was a priority for the company and we leveraged it to get other gains in the TA. On the flip side, we negotiated other time off gains that no other CWA represented AT&T Mobility worker has in the country. Here are some of the highlights in the TA:
Previously, paid illness time for employees hired prior to January 1, 2017 was unlimited. In this TA, it is capped at 10 days per year. After looking at the data, only 52 workers across the entire contract used more than 10 days paid illness time off last year.
No other AT&T Mobility contract in the country has paid parental leave. In the TA, we negotiated 2 weeks of paid parental leave.
Previously, only funerals were covered under the 3 day paid bereavement leave. Now, we negotiated an extended 3 day coverage to memorial services too. We also negotiated an additional day of unpaid leave if the service is more than 200 miles away.
Myself and the bargaining team are confident that while we negotiated a limit to paid illness time off that we effectively leveraged this during bargaining to achieve other gains and that the new parental leave and bereavement leave are the best we could negotiate.
