AT&T SW TA Featured Highlights - JOB SECURITY!

Today’s Focus is JOB SECURITY!

We needed to secure our future in a changing Company. As you all know, the Company is moving in a new direction. Over the past 20 years, we’ve seen a shift in culture and technology. AT&T has made it clear—they no longer see themselves as a traditional telecommunications company. They’ve untethered from copper and legacy landline services.

  • Added MOA that expands Article XXV - Contract Work (Departmental
Agreement) to include “Traditional Fiber Work” for the buildout, installation, and maintenance of fiber services.
  • Protected Successorship Language
  • For the first time, the
Company has committed—in writing—that fiber work belongs to us. Previously, AT&T refused to put that commitment in the contract, using contractors to expand and maintain the very work that defines our future. That’s over.

How does the MOA expanding Article XXV increase job security when the Company can still use those contractors?

ANSWER:

The Fiber MOA is an enhancement to Article XXV in the Departmental Agreement as the current language only talked about “traditional telephone work”. The MOA will now include traditional Fiber Work so the Company cannot use Contractors to do any buildout, installation, and maintenance work on Fiber if it would cause a layoff or reduction in hours to part time for our represented employees. This was probably the single biggest victory we added to this Tentative Agreement.
