Multiband Bargaining Report #5

The Union and the Company met again yesterday and extensive discussions were held on many issues, especially the Service Technician MOA. These discussions led to a better understanding of how the plan will work and be applied.

The were additional minor items which were agreed to, but many of the critical items which affect each of you daily are still unsettled.

Still open are Health Care, Company Policies, Arbitration, Veterans Pay Schedule, Tier 3 Schedule, and Wages. The Company has given no indication that they are willing to provide a wage increase to any employee. They continue to advise the bargaining committee how they are controlled by DirectTV, and because of that, they in essence, aren’t in control of the money.

In reference to the meetings which the Company held on Thursday and Friday, it appears that on Friday there were discussions about what certain non Union locations have as it relates to wages and benefits. The question was asked why does it take so long to get changes here. The answer is easy, it takes time to make proposals that are in the members/employees benefit and then discuss those proposals with the Company.

If anyone doubts the value of the/a Union, ask anyone who has had their job saved by the Union, or received wages or benefits because of the Union.

Without the Union there are no guaranteed protections, there are no guaranteed benefits, there is no grievance or arbitration procedure. The rules can change at any time, for any reason, without notification.

The Union and the Company have agreed to meet again on April 25, 2011 to continue bargaining for you, our members.
