Disaster Relief Resources and Information for District 6 Winter Storm Victims

We hope you and your families are warm and safe as we emerge from this unprecedented winter storm.  Thousands across District 6, especially those in Texas, were hit hard by the past few days of severe weather and its effects.  Millions are going without, or went without, power or running water for days.

Following winter storms that turned the lives of many working families upside down, the Texas AFL-CIO’s Texas Workers Relief Fund (TWRF) has received donations to help our communities recover.

As with other disasters, there is no way the fund could cover the full needs of those who had major damage to their homes. But the relief fund could help to make a difference in our members' path to recovery.

To access assistance the Texas AFL-CIO has asked us to work with our affiliates to identify how your members were impacted by the storm and what needs your members currently have.

We have created a damage and needs assessment form for members of Gulf Coast Labor Federation affiliates on our website. We are asking your local’s Disaster Response Coordinator to ask your members who were impacted by the storm to fill out this form by Friday, March 26, 2021.

The Area Labor Federation will compile the information we receive from your members and submit a request for assistance for all locals directly to the Texas Workers Relief Fund. The TWRF will send a check made payable to the ALF, and the ALF will disburse funds to each local in the form your members identify as most helpful in the survey.
